Message from the Director:

June 1, 2005 marks the 5th year
anniversary of Get to the Core.

These last 5 years have passed by so quickly. I feel like it was just yesterday, and have the same passion I had 5 years ago. I often think back to how I got started, and remember those close to me supporting me in this vision. I don’t ever remember being more frightened than I was back then.

I recall how I first got the idea for Get to the Core. I was in charge of the inpatient physical therapy department at Cleveland Clinic Hospital (when it was located on the beachside in Fort Lauderdale.) I had a wonderful mentor and unique opportunity to have a leadership position soon after I graduated from school. Four years after I worked there, the hospital announced they were moving to Weston. Being from the beach, and living so close to work, I did not even consider relocating. It was also a time where I was ready to grow.

I was taking a jazz class at Dance Dimensions, and took an interest in treating dancers. Being a long-time dancer, they seemed to appreciate that I could use the terminology they use to describe their challenges. The director of the school, Angela Mauti, kindly let me use a small room to treat some of the dancers. I began to not only treat patients from the school, but also non-dancers, who where in need of physical therapy. Angela suggested that I rent a space. Although I have always been audacious, the thought of such a responsibility petrified me.

I found my current space and was told that I had to commit to a 3-year lease. Laden with fear, I could not even grasp the idea of 3 years. What if I wasn’t able to make it after 6 months? I convinced the owner (who has been one of my most favorite clients,) to sign on for 1 year. She agreed, and the hard work began.

I remember scrubbing the floors as I talked on the phone with Medicare, trying to establish a contract. I was the receptionist, cleaning lady, sales and marketing director, biller, and physical therapist for the first 6 months.

I went to visit physicians I had never met. I am thankful to those that took the time to meet with me, and try Get to the Core. Those physicians truly helped build the practice.

My parents were also supportive, and although they were aware I left a comfortable position, they encouraged me to take the risk. Mom helped with business cards and letterhead, and suggestions on how to run the office. Dad spent countless hours educating me on customer service, marketing, and developed my website.

During these 5 years I have come in contact and surrounded myself with intelligent, motivated people. These special people made such significant contributions, that when I look around the office, I am always reminded of them.

Finally, I would like to recognize and thank my patients. Each has taught me something important. 80% of our patients return surveys they complete when they finish treatment. They are all filled with invaluable input. Many patients return for additional treatment, or continue on with wellness programs. (I still treat some of the initial patients I saw when I opened.) Others refer their family and friends. Still others send letters, jokes, pictures, and keep me apprised of their lives.

Thank you all for this unforgettable experience; Get to the Core will always strive to become better.
