Get to the Core asked Lisa "Why do you dance?" This was her reply:
My mother put me in dance when I was very young; it was just something I did. But what I now realize, is that it is who I am. Whenever I introduce myself at school, I always say, "Hi my name is Lisa and I am a Dancer." Below are my reasons:
I dance because I can tell a story, without saying a word…
I dance because of the energy rush and the emotional high I get when I am under those hot, bright lights, and all eyes are on me…
I dance because I can stand on my toes without having them hurt…
I dance because I am an artist, without having to use a paintbrush and a canvas…
I dance because I can express my fears, my sadness, my joy, without yelling, screaming, or laughing…
I dance because it’s who I am…
I dance because I can spin and spin, without getting dizzy…
I dance because I make music with my feet, and I am not a musician…
I dance because of the discipline I get everyday when I walk into that studio…
I dance because of those beautiful costumes I wear…
I dance because no one makes me, I am not forced, it’s a choice…
I dance because one day I will have the opportunity to travel all over the world doing what I love…
I dance because when I partner, all of my trust is in him…
I dance because I can always look beautiful even when I am not trying to…
I dance because of the huge family I am in, without being related…
I dance because of that language we all know…
I dance because I can walk down the street and tell who is a dancer…
I dance because of the same love we all have, yet we have never met…
I dance because I don’t have to explain myself, they just know…
I dance because I can fall out of step, and continue without anyone laughing…
I dance because it teaches me to balance school and dance at the same time…
I dance because of the happiness it brings me…
I dance because if I am having a rough day, I can walk in class and know that it will be all right…
I dance because I will always know where my home is, even when I am lost…
I dance because I love it….. plain and simple…
